Representatives from Fiji and other regional financial intelligence units met recently to discuss and collaborate on initiatives to combat financial crime in the region. This was part of the annual meeting of the Pacific Financial Intelligence Community (PFIC) which was held in Brisbane, Australia from 12-14 November 2024 and was hosted by the Australian financial intelligence unit (AUSTRAC).
PFIC is a network of financial intelligence units of Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.
The meeting discussed various initiatives that PFIC members have agreed to collaborate on such joint operations, intelligence sharing, capacity-building activities and region-wide technological enhancements.
PFIC was established in 2021 to promote collaboration amongst Pacific financial intelligence units to combat money laundering and other serious financial crime threats in the region.
